63  Migration from ida, GDB or WinDBG

63.1 How to run the program using the debugger

rizin -d /bin/ls - start in debugger mode =>

63.2 How do I attach/detach to running process ? (gdb -p)

rizin -d <pid> - attach to process

rizin ptrace://pid - same as above, but only for io (not debugger backend hooked)

[0x7fff6ad90028]> o-225 - close fd=225 (listed in o~[1]:0)

rizin -D gdb gdb://localhost:1234 - attach to gdbserver

63.3 How to set args/environment variable/load a specific libraries for the debugging session of rizin

Use rz-run (libpath=$PWD:/tmp/lib, arg2=hello, setenv=FOO=BAR …) see rz-run -h / man rz-run

63.4 How to script rizin ?

rizin -i <scriptfile> ... - run a script after loading the file =>

rizin -I <scriptfile> ... - run a script before loading the file

rizin -c $@ | awk $@ - run through awk to get asm from function => [link]

[0x80480423]> . scriptfile - interpret this file =>

[0x80480423]> #!c - enter C repl (see #! to list all available RLang plugins) => , everything have to be done in a oneliner or a .c file must be passed as an argument.

To get #!python and much more, just build rizin-bindings

63.5 How to list Source code as in gdb list ?

CL @ sym.main - though the feature is highly experimental

64.1 Equivalent of “set-follow-fork-mode” gdb command

This can be done in two ways:

 1. Use the configuration variable dbg.follow.child to choose the process (parent or child) you want to follow.
 2. Use dcf to debug until a fork and then use dp to select what process you want to debug.

65 Common features

 • rizin accepts FLIRT signatures
 • rizin can connect to GDB, LLVM and WinDbg
 • rizin can write/patch in place
 • rizin have fortunes and [s]easter eggs[/s]balls of steel
 • rizin can do basic loading of ELF core files from the box and MDMP (Windows minidumps)
